Mr. Wu,50-year-old,  is tired from daily work, too much entertainment, hard to control his diet and lack of exercise. He has suffered from high blood pressure and diabetes for more than 10 years, and hyperlipidemia in the past 5 years. Although he has been followed up and treated in the outpatient clinic for a long time, his status is not ideal . Both of his parents had diabetes and high blood pressure. In recent years, Mr. Wu's renal function deteriorated rapidly, fundus lesions appeared, and he even suffered from asthma (urea symptoms). Finally, in an emergency, he was intubated for dialysis due to pulmonary edema (water accumulation), and then entered the long-term dialysis schedule, which was extremely miserable.

95% of patients suffer from chronic kidney disease who even don't know it.

According to the United States Kidney Data Registration System, the incidence of end-stage renal disease in 2018, Taiwan still ranks first in the world at 523 per million population. About 90,000 people in Taiwan are currently receiving "dialysis treatment" (including hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis), also known as "kidney dialysis". Dialysis is an important treatment to prolong the life of patients with end-stage renal disease. Once dialysis is stopped for patients with end-stage renal disease, their lives will be threatened immediately, and fatal events may occur within a few days.

Lin Junzhang, a nephrologist at Xinying Hospital of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, said that the prevalence rate of chronic kidney disease in Taiwan is 11.9%, second only to Japan and the United States, and the prevalence rate of kidney dialysis is the highest in the world; it is estimated that more than 2 million people in Taiwan suffer from chronic kidney disease, of which As many as 95% of patients are unaware that they are sick.

5 early symptoms of kidney disease

Lin Junzhang explained that the early common symptoms of kidney disease are "bubble, water, high, poor, tired", which are bubble urine, edema, high blood pressure, anemia and burnout; in addition to the above five major symptoms, hematuria, asthma, loss of appetite Good, nausea, vomiting, may also be a sign of kidney disease, the public should pay special attention.

1. Bubble urine: the possibility of proteinuria

2. Edema: The eyelids and lower part are the places where edema is easy to be found

3. High blood pressure: the cause may be the excretion of body water, imbalance of regulation and imbalance of renin secretion

4. Anemia: Mainly due to impaired secretion of erythropoietin and hormones

5. Burnout: Due to the accumulation of anemia and uremic toxins in various parts of the body, it affects the normal operation of various functions of the body

Kidney function drops to 15%, and kidney dialysis is recommended.

Lin Junzhang explained that diabetes has the highest proportion among kidney dialysis patients in Taiwan, accounting for about 50% of the disease, followed by hypertension, glomerulonephritis and interstitial nephritis. He added that when the remaining renal function is about 50%, it will have little impact on daily life, if it is less than 25% or below 20% (stage 4), it will be harmful to human health and the normal operation of the overall function, and when it drops to 15% % or less than 10%, you need to highly consider dialysis treatment.

Lin Junzhang also called for the prevention and treatment of kidney disease to focus on controlling the three highs (blood sugar, blood pressure, and blood fat), avoiding the use of kidney-damaging drugs (such as analgesics and anti-inflammatory drugs, heavy metal-containing foods, drugs, etc.), daily intake of sufficient water and exercise. Among them, "aerobic exercise" is the best choice. It can increase blood circulation and oxygen supply in organs, which is of great help to various organs. It is suggested that the general public can do aerobic exercise to achieve smooth blood flow and reduce the risk of high blood pressure.
